Sample Units and Lesson Plans

These sample lessons and unit plans demonstrate my ability to design coherent instruction for my dance students based on their prior knowledge, skill levels and developmental age groups. 

Unit Plan: American Modern Dance 

In this forthcoming unit, students learn about the history of American modern dance, including the contributions of many historical figures and communities who helped develop the art form.

Unit Plan: Preparing for a Dance Showcase

In this unit, beginner 6th grade dance students develop skills in showcase preparation for concert dance, refining performance through rehearsal strategies as well as considering the role and impact of production elements.

Lesson Plan: Experiential Anatomy

The following is a sample lesson plan from my experiential anatomy unit in which advanced high school dance students learn about the pelvis, spine, scapulae and feet through embodied explorations.

Lesson Plan: Partnering in Modern Dance

The following is a sample lesson plan for a collaborative rehearsal process in which high school students in an intermediate-level dance class create original partnering choreography to incorporate into a modern dance.
