K-12 EDUCATION

Standards-Based Teaching

I provide sample teaching artifacts from my pedagogical practice that are based on the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching. This framework organizes standards for evaluating effective teaching based on empirical evidence. The 22 standards are divided into four categories outlined below. PARTICIPATING IN A PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY

Dance Education Conferences

It was a pleasure to attend the National Dance Education Conference in October 2018 and virtually in October 2021. I had the opportunity to take workshops and connect with dance educators in the field, as well as take a tour of K-12 Dance Education Programs in San Diego, California. I look forward to attending future conferences in order to continue to develop and improve my teaching practice for the benefit of my learning communities.

GROWING AND DEVELOPING PROFESSIONALLY

NDEO Conference Reflection

I attended the virtual National Dance Education conference in October 2021 and wrote a synopsis of each workshop I attended,  reflecting on ways in which I could apply the new information to my own teaching practice.

SHOWING PROFESSIONALISM

Student Surveys

An important aspect of showing professionalism as a dance educator is by demonstrating cultural awareness. In the beginning of both semesters of teaching at Lafayette Academy Middle School, I passed out surveys that my dance students completed in order to share their interests and background experiences in dance, as well as to share their learning preferences. Adapting instruction to accommodate students' backgrounds, experiences and interests is a culturally relevant teaching practice that demonstrates the teacher's respect of students' identities. This evidence-based instructional practice also builds on students' prior knowledge and cultural assets to optimizing meaningful learning.
